Flat Plan
Film poster 1
This image above is my first flat plan for a film poster that will link into my teaser trailer. I would like my poster to be edited in a way that the audience can identity my teaser trailer with; this is so my trailer will get recognized easier and so more people will go and watch the full film as they are reminded about it, thus will increase the profits of the film as it will be well known.
Film Poster 1 shows the main image in the centre as this will catch the viewer’s attention first and depending on the image, it will attract the viewer to look in more depth at the film poster. The image will show a medium / close up shot of the character Henry Danyetta’s face; this is so the audience can see the facial expressions of the boy better and in more detail. The angle of the image will be straight forward as this will make the audience feel a bit tension as the character will be looking directly at the audience, thus creating the fear that is represented in the teaser trailer, by doing this the audience will be able to understand that this poster shows a horror genre film; targeting the audience at a higher rate as they think about the poster in more depth. The body language of the character will be emotionless as this will create fear within the audience as you don’t know what to expect from the character, the unknown could create this fear. The character will also have make-up on this face that will represent his costume shown in the teaser trailer; the make-up again will express the horror genre as it will be dull and creepy looking. I will edit the characters face to again make the poster look more creepy and professional, by doing this it will catch the audience’s attention as the poster looks like something promising. I will edit the face to have half a normal looking side, and the other side will either have a skull slowly rotten through the flesh of the skin or it will have more demoniac face.
This flat plan also shows that a slogan/ subtitle will be placed at the top of the poster, this will attract the viewers attention as we humans tend to look at the top of a poster first than the bottom, if the slogan is catchy enough for the audience they may want to read and see more of the poster, they could gather more information about the release date of the film or just to get an overall feel of what the film will be like. The slogan itself will be a type of teaser as it will make you wonder what does it mean, and so the audience may want to watch the film to find out; thus gaining more profit.
Near the bottom of the page I have put the main title of the Film, this text will be the biggest size as it needs to grab the viewers attention and make a good statement to them, by doing this the audience will remember the name better, and they will not have to search for what the film is called, as the text will be bold and interesting to look at. The title of the teaser trailer will set the tone for the trailer, making the poster look professional and worthy of the audience’s time to check this film out.
Underneath this title I will have extra information about the release date of the film as this is also another important factor to have on a film poster. By having the date of release here, the viewers will see the title and so they will know when the film comes out as this information is just underneath it, thus linking the information on the poster altogether, making it easier for the viewer to understand the whole thing. Without the release date of the film the audience will not know when to go and see this film and so, might forget about this whole film; leading to loss in profits
Underneath the information about the date of release there is another information box that will only show the company name and year the film came out, this is here to make the poster look professional and to let the audience know the background details of the film. By showing who the company is, this will give recognition to the company and so they will be better know in the public eye. It can also give a taster to what the film is going to be like; for example, if that company is well known for horror, the audience will know this is another horror film that will most likely be interesting and good to watch.
The overall colour scheme will be dull , dark and mysterious as that will represent the whole film, it will also give suggestions that this film will be horror as the audience will know these colours are seen as ‘unhappy’ and perhaps ‘evil’ tones. I will properly use the colours, black/grey, dark red, and dark blue, the black/grey will give the vibe of tension as it will contrast with brighter colours that express happiness and luck, these colours are more likely to show a sad and stressed time of someone’s life. The dark red could be seen and interpreted as the colour of blood or rust, which is commonly used in horror film posters. This is another way of letting the audience know this poster and film is horror genre, the dark red could also be another way of grabbing the viewers attention as red is seen as bold and eye catching. I would use the dark blue as it will contrast with the red but will also link into the message of sadness and fear as it can symbolise a misty or foggy future, and like what I said previously, the unknown can create fear. These colours will hopefully make the poster look professional and will attract the viewers attention to go and watch the teaser trailer and whole film.
I would partly use a continuous font scheme as this will make my poster look more consistent and professional for the audience. It will make the poster clearer to read and so the information about the film can be taken easily; thus letting the audience know more about the film’s release date and genre. I will use two different types of font, the subtitle/slogan and main title will be one font to link the titles together, and the extra information will be in another font to link the information together, this will make it easier for the viewer to take the information they want from the poster. Both different types of font will express tension and will either show a formal side that will be easy to understand, (for the extra information) or a custom side that will have its own twist on the letters, and will look interesting to read ( titles ) . Hopefully this will make my poster look more realistic and fun to read and look it.
